EGA inaugurates UAE’s largest aluminum recycling plant in Al Taweelah

Emirates Global Aluminium has inaugurated the UAE’s largest aluminum recycling plant at Al Taweelah, marking a significant expansion of the company’s low-carbon metal business and the country’s circular economy infrastructure.

The new facility has a production capacity of 185,000 tonnes per year and will process post-consumer aluminum scrap, along with some pre-consumer scrap, into low-carbon premium aluminum billets and T-bars. The recycled metal will be marketed by EGA under the product name RevivAL.

The inauguration was attended by UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi Secretary General Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, EGA Chairman Homaid Al Shimmari, Vice Chairman Saeed Al Tayer, and senior company officials.

Dr. Al Dahak said recycling is central to the UAE’s Circular Economy Policy, adding that aluminum offers a major opportunity because it is “infinitely recyclable” and requires up to 95% less energy to recycle than producing primary aluminum from raw ore.

According to EGA, much of the aluminum scrap generated in the UAE has historically been exported for processing overseas. The Al Taweelah plant gives the company local processing capacity and makes EGA the largest consumer of aluminum scrap in the country.

Construction of the plant took four million work hours and was completed without injuries requiring time off work. The facility began producing recycled aluminum in February, with ramp-up to full production expected to take up to six months, depending on scrap availability.

EGA Chief Executive Officer Abdulnasser Bin Kalban said the project adds a new industrial activity to EGA’s UAE operations and supports Make it in the Emirates and Operation 300bn.

With Al Taweelah and other recycling assets in Europe and the United States, EGA’s recycling capacity has reached more than 400,000 tonnes annually.
